Mac McDonald, Vision Cellars

Presented by Sonoma County Library Foundation, Sonoma County Wine Library, and the Wine Library Association

Mac blazed a trail for future African American winemakers, embodying a spirit of perseverance and a thirst for knowledge. His approach, marked by a willingness to seize every opportunity and soak up every ounce of learning, inspired others to follow in his footsteps.

The event also features wine and appetizers from Chris Christensen of Bodkin Wines, Dan Glover of L’Objet Wines, Justin Michelle Ward of Ward Four Wines, Dennis McCarter of McCarter Cellars, Paradise Ridge, and Chef Marc-Henri Jean-Baptiste of Maison Porcella.

Tasting Diversity: Insights from Black Pioneers in the Wine World

On February 25, 2024, SCPLF collaborated with the Sonoma County Library’s Wine Library and Sonoma County Wine Library Association to present a sold-out, groundbreaking event celebrating Black History Month. Taking place at Fog Crest Vineyard, Board member Dennis McCarter assembled leaders in the Sonoma County wine community to explore challenges and opportunities in the wine industry, featuring: Christopher Christensen, Bodkin Wines; Danny Glover, L’Objet Wines; Rosalind Manoogian, Fog Crest Vineyard; Angela McCrae, Association of African American Vintners; and Brenae Royal, Monte Rosso Vineyard. The panel was moderated by television personality Jay Jackson, producer of WineNewsNoir.com. A reception, wine tasting, and auction followed the discussion, with bites provided by Saucy Mama’s, Vegan Mob, and Maison Porcella. Appreciation to event partners Mary and Stephen Graves, descendants of abolitionist John Brown; Fog Crest Vineyard; Association of African American Vintners; and the NAACP Santa Rosa-Sonoma County Branch.

Roseland Regional Library Community Preview

SCPLF joined forces with Los Cien to host a Community Preview on November 9, 2023 at Sally Tomatoes in Rohnert Park, sharing updates on how the project is progressing and images of how the library might look based on community feedback. Joining Library Director Erika Thibault and SCPLF Treasurer Judy Glenn at the podium was Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire, Group 4 Architecture principal David Schnee, Santa Rosa City Councilmembers Eddie Alvarez and Jeff Okrepkie, and Library Commission Chair Deborah Doyle.

Volunteer Leadership Recognition Day

On April 20, 2023, Sonoma County Library held an appreciation event to thank SCPLF Board members and other core library volunteers. Nominating Committee Chair Jorge Inocencio was one of the featured speakers.

Roseland Regional Library Campaign Launch

SCPLF launched our $3.6 million fundraising campaign for the Roseland Regional Library with a breakfast in the Central Library’s Forum room on November 10, 2022 with longtime library supporters, elected officials, library commissioners, and key donors.
