About SCPLF
Since its initial formation in 1986, the Sonoma County Public Library Foundation has been equal parts vocal advocate, generous funder and staunch champion for the Sonoma County Library.
On April 20, 2023, Sonoma County Library held an appreciation event to thank SCPLF Board members and other core library volunteers. Nominating Committee Chair Jorge Inocencio was one of the featured speakers.
We are especially grateful to our donors Mary Graves and Alice Kibwaa, who invited us to meet at Beltane Ranch on February 25, 2023, a place that holds a special place in local Black history. Library Director Erika Thibault gave a fascinating talk on the contributions of African American winemakers in Sonoma County, beginning with the extraordinary life of civil rights activist Mary Ellen Pleasant, the self-made African American millionaire who bought Beltane Ranch in 1892, up to more recent activities of the Association of African American Vintners. Co-founded by Windsor’s legendary Mac MacDonald (Vision Cellars), AAAV papers are accessible at the Sonoma County Library’s Wine Library in Healdsburg. Winemaker Dennis McCarter of the new McCarter Cellars attended with wife and business partner Laura.
SCPLF launched our $3.6 million fundraising campaign for the Roseland Regional Library with a breakfast in the Central Library’s Forum room on November 10, 2022 with longtime library supporters, elected officials, library commissioners, and key donors.
